FACTS AT A GLANCE INFLUENCING NATIONAL EVENTS * As well as campaigning on behalf of current and future members of the Unilever UK pension scheme, COUP has a voice on the national stage through its membership of a number of other bodies representing well over two million pensioners. They are among the interested parties consulted by the government when it is proposing to bring in changes to pensions in general as well as to the various accountancy rules and regulations involved. * One of those bodies is also pushing for increases in the State pension linked to the higher of either average earnings or the retail price index. It also wants to see bus passes for pensioners extended to other forms of public transport as well as an end to the closure of public toilets and an improvement in their cleanliness. It is also opposed to the closure of both Post Offices and public telephone boxes.
