We will not give up
WHEN WE last met Unilever we pressed for a discretionary increase for those who retired many years ago on pensions that were less generous than those received by others who retired more recently. Despite the fact we continue to believe there are reasonable grounds for this concession the company was adamant there was no money available for such a gesture.
We were disappointed at this position and will continue to pursue this issue, particularly when the fund’s deficit reduces. It is manifestly wrong for the Company to benefit automatically from a contributions’ holiday if the fund subsequently moves into surplus without pensioners getting a penny extra. We will not give up because we believe this cause is just.
